Black female rappers/r&b singers have done more for me in terms of sexuality/sexual expression than mainstream feminism ever could. Listen intimately to the lyrics of this song, Ms. Howard ain’t playing about her sexual affirmations and lifestyle. The opening lines set the tone for the entire song:

I don’t care what they say
I’m not about to pay nobody’s way
‘Cause it’s all about the dog in me

Do you hear that? I mean, do you REALLY see what she’s saying? She’s basically saying idgaf about what you think about my sexual expressions, you will fucking DEAL WITH IT. Why? Because the only person it matters to is me, it is “ALL ABOUT (the dog in) ME”. Further confirmed in the last two lines of the chorus:

I got a freaky secret, everybody sing
‘cause we don’t give a damn about a thing

Also love how towards the end of the song, the male voice in the background sings:

One to the two, to the two, to the three
Adina, do you want to get freaky with me?

It’s the fact that he is asking her if she would like to ‘get freaky’ with him, and not demanding that she does, further reinstating that regardless of whatever ‘freakiness’ is being discussed, it all ultimately rests and centers around the issue of consent, which is where the song ends.
