Let’s face it, without the incredible, innovative work of women in hip hop, all these ivory tower feminists would be out of work. They don’t spend years and years dissecting these images just for fun. (Well ok, maybe a little.) They dissect this shit because it’s destabilizing and thought-provoking. And I learned about feminism from TLC and Destiny’s Child and Missy Elliott— WAY before I ever even heard of Bikini Kill.
